To Make a Copy of a User Account in the Same Datasource

  1. Select the Users node.
  2. Right-click a user account in the list and select Copy.
  3. Right-click the Users node (or somewhere in the list of users) and select Paste.

    The Copy User(s) dialog opens.

  4. Select which items associated with the original user that you would like to copy over to the new user.
    • To copy the user settings of the original account to the new account, keep User settings turned on.
    • To copy the membership settings of the original account to the new account, keep User membership turned on.
    • To copy the access rights (such as permissions set on documents, folders, and work areas) of the original account to the new account, keep User access rights turned on.
  5. Click OK.

The new user account is created and is named "Copy of <original user>".

  6. Change the name, password, and type of the new user account as needed.

In most cases you will need to change at least the name and password of the new account. In some cases you will also need to change the type.

For example, if you make a copy of a logical account with the name "Mary", the new account, named "Copy of Mary", is a logical account whose password is also "Copy of Mary". ProjectWise will let you log in with a name and password like "Copy of Mary", but you will probably want to change it.

On the other hand, if you make a copy of a Windows - Synchronized account with the name "Domain.User", the new account, named "Copy of Domain.User", becomes just a Windows account (not synchronized). ProjectWise will not let you log in with this name because it probably does not exist in your active directory. In this case, you would either change the user name to an existing Windows account, or you would change the type to Logical and also give this user a new name and password.

Tip: Other properties to consider changing:
    • General properties: Description, E-mail
    • User setting: Working Directory > When using ProjectWise Explorer
